You're not alone on your breastfeeding journey!

I’ll be honest, I love breastfeeding but at times I don’t enjoy it. The journey starts with rock hard engorgement, cracked nipples, nipple thrush…shall I go on? It’s never been overly comfortable for me no matter how far into the journey we are.

But I love it.

I love that my milk has nutrients that are unmatched by any other first food my baby can receive. I love that I can help boost my baby’s immune system. I love that it’s proven to lower the risk of breast cancer, ovarian cancer, osteoporosis, diabetes and cardiovascular disease. The list goes on!

Currently 4 months along in my third breastfeeding experience, my little Daisy and I gaze into each other’s eyes while she feeds and giggles away at me at the same time. There’s just something empowering about nourishing and growing a child from our body to theirs. It’s such a humbling experience….uncomfortable sure, but also the best feeling in the world.

As with any journey there are always obstacles to overcome, mine first began 6 years ago while breastfeeding my first born, Milly. Just as we settled into the swing of our feeding sessions I was hit with a dip in my milk supply.

As a first time mum I was distraught and both Milly and I ended up in tears. A quick google search later (any mums best friend) and I came across ‘lactation cookies’. I was willing to sell my right arm at this point just to get my milk back up and flowing so I figured I may as well give them a go.

I went out in search of the necessary ingredients (which at the time were extremely hard to find!) and a few hours later I had in my kitchen my favourite cookie recipe along with brewers yeast, flaxseed & oats. These three ingredients are called ‘galactagogues’ and are historically known to work alongside a mother’s milk-making hormones to increase breastmilk supply.

I kid you not…only a few hours later my boobs were OVERFLOWING. I was in complete shock! I ran off to tell all of my mums friends and before long I was baking lactation cookies for any and every mum I came into contact with.

Made to Milk was born shortly after and 6 years later we have given tens of thousands of mums all over Australia the confidence to absolutely nail their breastfeeding experiences. All with the help of some TO-DIE-FOR cookies, hot chocolate powders, savoury crackers and so much more!

One day soon the weaning process will start and Daisy will become less reliant on me as she delves into the world of solids (with the help of the stunning Stokke Tripp Trapp® Chair of course!) but for now we’ll continue each day to find beauty in the roller coaster that breastfeeding can be & take each feed as they come. It’s not always easy but hang in there mama, you’ve got this.

The Stokke Tripp Trapp and Baby Set has been designed to encourage connection and bonding at the dining table. An Essential for when your baby is ready to start solids! Can be used from 6 months when baby starts to show signs of being ready for solids. With ergonomic back support to ensure proper fit & of course optional toddler tray and cushion accessories, you and baby are all set!
